Friday 2nd December
Maths
This week we have continued with telling the time, but looking at problems involving adding and subtracting hours and minutes, and the language of this.
English
This week the children have produced some beautiful work around our text, The Lost Thing. They have created a non-fiction style book and persuasive posters to advertise an amazing place for the lost things to live.
Science
We only had a short science lesson this week, but learnt about condensation and where we may see it around the home.
Topic
In topic we continued with our posters about flooding and our packaging products
On a magical and mysterious note, a small door has appeared on top of one of the cupbaords in the classroom. Where does it lead to and who may come out of it? We may find out next week.....
Friday 25th November
Maths
This week we have been telling the time. All the children did very well and we will be continuing next week.
English
We have been studying a book by Shaun Tan called The Lost Thing. This is an unusual tale full of strange creatures. The children have been really inspired and have produced some wonderful writing. Some of their work will be added to our soon-to-be-revamped entrance and library area.
Science
Our topic this half term is solids, liquids and gases. This week we investigasted liquids and learned about evapouration.
Topic work
We learned about flooding this week and the chhildren are producing posters.
In DT the children are designing packaging for new chocolate bars.
Friday 28th October
Well after a very long half term, the children have worked incredibly hard and are very ready for a rest and a break. Have a relaxing half term, everyone!
Maths
In maths this week we have been using our knowledge of addition and subtraction and applying it to money. The children have found this really challenging. We finished the week by having a market in the classroom where they could buy lots of different items. If you would like to practice using money etc with your children at home, this would be a great help.
English
We have been learning to use speech marks this week and then applying this into our writing.
Science
This week we finished off our topic on forces by making parachutes of different dhapes and sizes to test the affects of air resistence.
Topic
In art the children have finished thier work around Willaim Morris and have produced some stunning individual and group art work which is now up on display in the classroom.
Friday 14thOctober
Maths
Over the last two weeks we have been learning about written methods of addition and the children have learned the column method. We have also looked at the relationship between addition and subtraction.
English
This week we have been studying the characters of Charlie bucket and Mr Willy Wonker. The children have written great character studies.
Science
This week we investigated friction by pulling our trainers across different surfaces and measuring the amount of fource needed. Our rewsults were quite surprising!
Topic
In our art we began to study the work of William Morris in deatil and replicated some of his patterns using watercolours - beautiful! We also began some reserach into 4 different rivers in different regions of the UK.
Friday 23rd September
Maths
We have been continuing to look at adding and subtracting 10 and 100 to any 3-digit number, and adding and subtracting multiples of 10 and 100.
English
This week the children planned and wrote their Traction man adventure stories. They are great! Please ask your children to tell you all about it.
Science
In science we carried out an experiement to see which was the strongest magnet by testing how many paper clips each one could hold.
Topic
We ahve started to look at the major rivers of the UK. We ahve also been finding out a little about artist William Morris for our art work.
Friday 16 September
Maths
This week we have been carrying on with place value. We have been partitioning numbers in different ways.
English
We have had great fun this week making our Traction Man characters. We then planned and then filmed a movie with our characters.
Science
We began to look at the properties of magnets this week and found out about attracting and repelling.
Topic
We studdied the main cities of the UK this week. It was lovely to talk to the children about relatives who lived in different places - and football teams they support from different cities!
Friday 9th September:
Maths
This week we have been looking at place value - HTU.
English
We have read the story of Traction Man. We have been using lots of adjectives in our descriptive writing.
Science
Our topic this term is Forces. We have been learning about pushes and pulls out on the playground.
Geography
We tried to make a map of the UK using salt dough. After a little bit of help, we made some fantastic models.
