SPRING TERM
Once again, our school has been bursting with tuneful harmonies throughout the first Spring Half Term.
KS 1 based their focus on lyric writing, using rhyme and rhythm after a visit from a rather friendly baby T Rex called Tina.
Take a look at the rhymes below. I’m sure that you’ll agree, they definitely create an atmosphere and impact upon the reader!
AUTUMN TERM 2016
Once again music has been coming out of every nook at cranny at Sandiway Primary School.
This term the children have worked tirelessly to create and develop compositions based on or around Roald Dahl's, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Reception and KS1 have been very busy creating weird and wonderful sweets that Willy Wonka might make in his Chocolate Factory. They added imaginative sounds and names to describe the exciting experience of eating one of these delightful teats. The fizzwhizz gooey gumdrop was a particular favourite of mine!
Reception and Year 1 children had an enjoyable time singing by pumpkin light as they sang Jack O Lantern.
See the pictures on their class page.
A great start to the year with Santa sized sacks of music to follow next term!
Finally, the whole school sang their socks off as they performed The Oompa Lompa song on Bookfest Day to raise money for new reading materials in school.
SUMMER TERM 2016
As always, this term had every child swinging, swaying and singing in every direction as we prepared to perform for a number of local.events.
Our first took place at the Sandiway and Cuddington's Gala Day. Despite several heavy downpours prior to our performance, the sun shined when we took to the arena as 86 children sang and danced to a specially composed song called Be The Best That You Can Be. The children choreographed the movements and with the added gymnastic skills and rhythmic ribbons the children produced a high quality performance that recieved a large number of emails and congratulation cards from members of the community.
Sandfest 2016 shortly followed and once again the children from Reception, YR 1 and YR 2 stole the show with their lively performances of I Love Red, Red Riding Hood Rap and I Once Saw An Elephant.
Towards the end of term the KS 1 Choir performed at the Music Celebration Assembly and were supported by sixty visitors. The children displayed good posture and vocal tone while tackling the slightly challenging maneuver of using props (the smelly old sock certainly made everyone smile)!
A fantastic end to an extremely tuneful year.
Many thanks for your enthusiasm and continued support and we look forward to sharing our musical journey next term.

SPRING TERM 2016
SPORTS RELIEF
This term saw the whole school sing and dance together to raise money for Sports Relief. This was an energetic performance with good two part singing and lively dance moves performed from the younger children in the school. Don't worry if you missed it, we're going to perform it again next term.
Children in Year 1 have been learning to sing in two parts and begin to create a composition inspired by the traditional tale of Jack And The Beanstalk. I look forward to sharing some of this work with you on the next Open Day.
Year 2 put the voices into good use as we sang and dance around the campfire at Fox Howl in February.Singing inside or out was equally good fun
Back in the classroom they have been learning how dynamics can change the feeling of music whether you are singing or playing instruments. Using the traditional tale of Red Riding Hood inspired the children to play their instruments in different way to describe a setting or emotion. Some great ideas and descriptive language used which overflowed into their English work too!
Next term see the start of KS1 Choir Club, with a lively performance planned at the end of the term1
Keep an eye out for a number of important dates as your little stars will be performing at the Sandiway and Cuddington Gala Day and our vety own Sandfest! Ta-da!
AUTUMN TERM 2015
In Year 1 the children have been busy developing their skills in Pulse and Rhythm this term and thoroughly enjoyed singing Okki- tokki- unga and creating a Roaring Dinosaur Rap. The children peformed their compositions with confidence and accuracy while maintaining a steady beat or rhythm when working in two parts. I was very impressed!
In Year 2 the children explored the pitch in music and began to recognise changes in timbre ( the quality of the sound- smooth, crisp, sratchy etc) The children sang with confidence in two parts and thoroughly enjoyed singing Someone's In The Kitchen With Dina. Ask them to sing it for you, I bet theycouldn't sing it without a smile!
Later in the term Year 2 certainly made lots of members of the community smile when we were invited to perform at Sandiway Library to celebrate its 40th Birthday! Many thanks for your wonderful comments.(Video to follow shortly)
Overall some great pieces of music were created with some good quality leadership skills being displayed by the children.
CHRISTMAS
In the second half of the term our attention turned towards learning a range of songs from different countries as we began to prepare for our Christmas performance of Children Of The World. The melodies varied immenslely in tempo, style and format with some songs sung as duets, in two parts or in unison. Although the script and song choices were a little challenging the children produced an extremely well polished performance displaying good posture, diction, tone and confidence.
Well done Reception and KS1. YOU WERE AMAZING!
